How the Random Emoji Story works — and why it's fair

Structuring the pools guarantees one of each role, every time.
The combination count is 12⁵ = 248,832, and every one is equally likely because the draws are independent. That is enough that a classroom running one a day would take nearly seven hundred years to exhaust it, which is a more useful way of stating the number than the number itself.
The slot labels are displayed underneath the emoji, which is what makes the sequence readable as a story rather than as decoration.
