The social layer

Whatever method you use, deciding it before the first game matters more than which one you pick. A turn order established after somebody has seen their opening hand is contested by definition, and the method chosen mid-session is always suspected of being chosen to suit whoever proposed it.

Making the draw visible helps for the same reason it helps everywhere else. A spun wheel or a rolled die is not fairer than a silent index draw and it is considerably more acceptable, because everyone watched the outcome arrive.
