How the Random Charades Word works — and why it's fair
Every prompt carries two independent tags: a category and a difficulty from one to three. Your two selectors filter on those tags as a conjunction, and the draw is an unbiased uniform pick from whatever survives.
Independent tagging is what makes this different from a set of pre-made lists. If the data were organised as six category lists, difficulty would be whatever happened to be in each list, and asking for a hard job would return whatever the jobs list contained. Tagging both axes separately means the intersection is a real selection rather than an accident of how the content was filed.
The pool count is shown because the intersection can be small. Six categories and three difficulties partition thirty-four prompts into eighteen cells, several of which hold one or two prompts — so "hard song" is a genuinely narrow request, and the tool says so rather than letting repeated draws imply it.
The difficulty ratings are about how hard the prompt is to ACT, which is not the same as how obscure it is. "Realising you left the oven on" is an everyday experience and a hard charade, because the acting has to convey an internal state with no props. "Penguin" is easy for the opposite reason.
The hide-and-reveal control is a two-state toggle rather than anything clever. Draw with the prompt hidden, hand the device over, reveal, act. The prompt is not transmitted anywhere and the round leaves no record.
Prompts are drawn independently each time, with no memory, so the same prompt can come up twice in an evening. For a game with a no-repeat guarantee, the truth-or-dare generator maintains a cycle; charades rounds are short enough that a repeat is usually a bonus rather than a problem.

Family game nights use the difficulty axis as an age control, running easy prompts with younger players and raising it for the adults, which keeps one game going rather than splitting into two.
Party games use the category axis to keep rounds varied, since a run of four film prompts makes the game feel like a quiz. Alternating categories deliberately is a better round structure than drawing from everything.
Classroom and language teaching use the whole thing as a vocabulary exercise, where the acting is the point and the difficulty rating maps usefully onto how much vocabulary a prompt requires to guess.
